Eagle Hawk-eye....

In all the new life we have experienced this week with the chicks, today we had to experience some death. Eagle Hawk-eye died today. I am not sure how, but I think she had the same sickness as Amelia.

She is buried with Charles and Amelia.

Random' Scramble'

Here is a bunch of pictures I took on Friday of chickens all over the coop and aviary. Do you see that piece of feed that is just in midair?

Just a gem...

The post title is kind of a play on words because this post is about Pearl, but on second thought I don't think Pearl is a gem. Maybe its a mineral... Oh well, I don't know, anyway here are some pictures of Pearl!

You can see she has been pecked by other chickens on her chest. Poor Pearl :(

Oh, golden headed bird~

A few posts back I told you about how Eagle Hawk-eye was very shy. Survivor is the same way and it is very hard to get a picture of her. Today I was successful! She is a very handsome bird. The feathers around her head are a beautiful, golden color. All of the Auracauna chickens look very different. Eagle has a black head, Survivor has a golden head, J.K. and Pearl have brown heads and Rosa has a reddish head. Their plumage is very similar though.

Auracauna Awesomeness

Here is a few pictures of our Auracaunas-J.K. and Pearl. They are forty percent of the Auracauna population we have on this farm(5). J.K. layed an egg with just the membrane in it. Someones not getting enough protein. tut tut. J.K. was feeling quite social today and was jumping and flapping all over me, so it was no problem to take this shot.
Pearl is laying an egg in this photo, and she isn't too pleased I came in to interrupt. She doesn't look too angry though. Thanks for reading!

Survivor steps up

I don't get many pictures of Survivor, but today she just felt like posing, apparently. Today one of the Auracaunas(I don't know if it was Survivor) laid such a large egg it didn't fit in the egg carton. We knew the egg was from an Auracauna because it was blue. Auracaunas are the only breed of chicken that lays blue eggs. Just a little background chicken info for you.
Another classic picture of Doc.

J.K.'s new look

Wow, as I typed the title I realized how much it sounded like a caption in some celebrity magazine-weird. Anyway, J.K. has a strange problem with her beak. It grows in a fang-like protuberance which is quite odd.

You may have noticed this before in some other pictures. She has had it for quite awhile, but I guess we thought she would just grow out of it. I shall keep you posted on this latest occurence.

Pearl: An inquisitive bird

This is Pearl, and she is very curious. Today she took a detour into the garage and was poking around. I captured the moment by taking a few pictures. Here they are!

Shining Pearl

Here is a few pictures of Pearl. She is quite strange sometimes, but cracks a good pose! These pictures are from winter break, I haven't had time to go out to the coop, this week. Today I had two basketball games, and I still have a bit of homework to do.

Thank you for reading!

Taking Flight

Here is a few great pictures of Pearl and Julia flying into the aviary. We had to clean the coop today, so we(my sister and I) took a few pictures of the chicks. These pictures were pretty hard to get, so appreciate them to their fullest extent!

Hair and Feathers~

Pearl has a strange passtime. She likes pecking people's hair. I know, pretty weird, right? Well, if you have long hair, you are sure to get along well with Pearl. Here is a picture of her taking a nip at my locks

Out and About

I went out to the coop on Sunday and here is the pictures. Pearl and Charles were the only ones to consent to have their pictures taken, as the others were too interested in scraps.

My sister and I were helping the chickens in to the coop, because for some reson they fell asleep outside. So we go tall of them into the coop and took a picture. Here is the Christmas version:
And the Original:

Survivor; a chicken of Great Deeds

Alright, I don't know if Survivor has done any great deeds, but I couldn't think of another title! Here is another picture of Survivor posing very majestically and photogenically.

J.K.; Chicken of many words

J.K. is probably named after the most famous author of our flock. She is a remakable bird and is always either eating or posing for pictures. J.K lays blue eggs and is of the Auracauna variety.

Photogenic chicken

Survivor is one of those where, you just know she will make a great photo. Here is an example of that ability: I may have explained this before, but just in case I didn't I will tell you how Survivor got her name. We adopted her from a family that was going away for awhile. Before we got her they let her run free. They named her Survivor because at night she flew into trees and escaped wild animals. All their other chickens died from the animals except Survivor. That's the story! We are proud to have her as a part of our flock.

Movie stars!

Yes, our chickens are now movie stars! Only Pearl and Charles are, actually. We were filming a movie for a school project, and those two chickens are a major part in it. Here is a picture of the two movie stars:

Pearl: A strange bird to say the least!

I do love Pearl! She is a great bird to have around. You will see a shot of her plumage and other strange pictures. Pearl reflecting on another good day in the coop.

Beautiful plumage!

Well, Hi!Good ole Pearl!

Jazz it up with J.K.

J.K. is one of our original flock, and is a great layer of green/blue eggs. Here is a shot of her politely trying to escape. Chickens do that, you know. They pretend to be all happy and carefree, and then they shoot out the door. It is rather strange.
A fun fact for you all: J.K. Rowling (human one) makes more money a year than the Queen of England. Some of you might already know that, but I thought it was quite interesting.
