Dancing chickens
This video is quite old, but I just found it. It is from September of 2007! I really want to put music to it, but I am not sure how.
I was originally trying to get a video of Julia flying up, but when I watched it I realized what was going on in the background. I think there is a name for that dance....I don't know what it is... (and don't say "the chicken dance")...

Preening 101
You may wonder how chickens keep their feathers so clean. There is actually a lot of work involved.
In their free time(they have a lot!) most of the time chickens preen. All birds do it to keep bugs out of their feathers, and keeping them smooth and soft.
They just run their beaks over each feather, therefore cleaning it.
Here is Doc modeling his finished product.

Survivor steps up
I don't get many pictures of Survivor, but today she just felt like posing, apparently. Today one of the Auracaunas(I don't know if it was Survivor) laid such a large egg it didn't fit in the egg carton.
We knew the egg was from an Auracauna because it was blue. Auracaunas are the only breed of chicken that lays blue eggs. Just a little background chicken info for you.
Another classic picture of Doc.

Rockin' Doc!
These pictures are from winter break too. I caught Doc in a very photogenic time apparently, because all my shots of him that day were quite splendid! Here are a small collection of that day's gallery:

Dr. Cute
Here is a very cute picture of Doc. My mom got a new camera for Christmas, and I was trying it out out make sure it worked. I wouldn't want to have her use it and it not work. That would just be too awful. So I tryed it out, and to my surprise it worked. Well, I had to know! Here is Doc:

Gotta Love 'em, but they'll ruin your Jeans
In my years of keeping chickens, I have noticed this saying applies to most every day in the chicken business. I was taking food out to them, and I noticed they were in prime picture mode. So I went in, oblivious to the fact that I had my best jeans on. As you may guess when I came out, my jeans were in a worse state than when I entered.
Doc was very nice and consented to not jump on me as five other chickens did.
Pearl thought about it for awhile and then jumped.:(
J.K. again
A word to the wise: Chickens and Jeans should not mix!

What's up, Doc?
The great chicken, Doc. She is really Dr. Seuss, but Doc is much friendlier. You would never guess that she and Richie were siblings(its true)! Doc is a very cute and trainable hen.

Chickens and cat interactions
For the most part the chickens and the cat don't interact too much. When they were chicks, Shadow would try to hunt them, but now they have grown a bit too much for her liking. Here are a few pictures of chickens and cat doing odd things.
I missed one picture of Shadow and the chickens that I will probably include on my next post. Thanks for reading(and commenting!)!

Our friend Shadow
You may have thought that the chickens were our only pets. We actually have another pet that is a friend of the chickens (or else she wouldn't be on this blog), a cat named Shadow. Here is a few pictures of her with the chickens.
This is when the coop was under construction. Shadow was with us from the beginning!
When they were chicks Shadow showed particular interest in the chickens.
Here she poses with Charles the fluffball!
The full size chickens and Shadow. They are getting a little big for her taste!
