Little miss spotty~

Lemony came up for some feed and posed for a few pictures. She kept moving so some of these are a bit blurry.
And if you didn't already know, I am scheduling all of the posts this week so as I am typing this it is actually Friday the 27th!

Mother of photography

My mom and I went down to the coop the other day and she tried out her new camera. She and I took a few pictures of Lemony(mine were in Sunday's post). Lemony enjoyed the attention and especially the fresh grass and dirt. Here are a few pictures my mom took:
You can visit my mom at her blog, but fair warning to you: You might get a bit overwhelmed with all the yarn(I know I do!)

Dancing chickens

This video is quite old, but I just found it. It is from September of 2007! I really want to put music to it, but I am not sure how.

I was originally trying to get a video of Julia flying up, but when I watched it I realized what was going on in the background. I think there is a name for that dance....I don't know what it is... (and don't say "the chicken dance")...

Lemony marches on...

In my title "marches" means March Madness, which we are watching right now. Go Michigan State! Well, I don't feel to strongly, but I like watching the games. Anyway, here is some pictures of Lemony in honor of my friend's birthday that is tomorrow. She likes Lemony best.
Happy Birthday Lilia!

Lemony in the lead

Here are a few pictures of Lemony at scrap time. Lemony is like every other chicken and loves scraps. You can tell who the chickens that are at the top of the pecking order by there feathers. Lemony has nearly perfect plumage and hardly any missing. That is a sure sign that the other chickens respect her. The only way you get to the top of the pecking order is by bulling oother chickens normally, and it is very hard to catch Lemony at it.
A nice shot of her perfect plumage.

Lemony is many people's favorite chicken for this reason. I can think of three people off the top of my head that like Lemony best(Lauren, Lilia, and Vonna)

New chickens on the block

Chickens may not be as popular as cats or dogs, but they are gaining prominence! I know this because one of our neighbors is getting chickens this Spring. Tif and her family came over on Sunday and asked Em and I all about our experiences with raising chickens. Not that they needed much help, Tif was well versed in chicken terminology and knew quite as much as I did. I think they just needed a real-life example to make sure all the books were up to scratch. We really enjoyed our time with them, and the chickens are excited to have some feathered friends on the block!

I have this picture of Lemony here because Speckled Sussex is one of the breeds Tif and her family hopes to get. Lemony is a bit of an oddball in her breed because none of the Sussex characteristics describe her very well. I am interested to see how Tif's Sussex's compare with Lemony

Lemony Leaf Launcher

Here is a picture I took this morning. Lemony goes nuts when she is outside of the aviary. You can see her foot midair, kicking some leaf.

Snowy plumage..... and weather

Lemony has the coolest plumage of all the chickens, in my opinion. She is black and brown with a dusting of white. It looks like it has snowed on her. Speaking of snow, we got an unexpected flurry of it today. It was quite nice, but I wish it had gone on longer. These pictures of Lem are before the snow.

This last one makes it look tropical!

Short and Sweet

This is a short video, but it portrays what chickens do. I think at this stage in your education of chickens, you should be able to recognize what state of molting they are at in this clip. Your essay is due next Thursday..... Sorry, but guess what week it is; Semester final week.

I sure chose a convenient time to be sick!

Good Night! Or Bonne huit! (French Final was today too!)

Wow...Someones Tired

The chickens were feeling a little lazy when I dropped in there this afternoon. I caught this shot of Lemony doing a humongus yawn in the aviary. Chickens are so lucky they get everlasting vacation.

Bon Appetite!

The chickens were very hungry when we went in to clean the coop. At least nine chickens jumped in and started eating! Here is a few pictures of them eating thier various pellets of food.

Lemony: Up close and personal

Here are a few cute photos of Lem, who has recently earned the nicname of Lemberton. I am not sure why, nor is anyone else. Lemony has grown a lot of white feathers on her face, which is a little odd, but it is not a sign of old age. At least I don't think it is. The chickens are almost"Over the hill" because chickens are supposed to live till five, and ours are turning three in April. That is the news, now enjoy the pictures!

Somebody's hungry!

Here is a movie of some hungry chickens. I just cleaned the coop and fed them, so they are pretty excited in this video. The movie is kind of long, so you don't have to watch the whole thing! This movie stars Julia, Lemony, Jasper and Doc.

Scaredy Cat

An interesting event occurred that we have not seen before. Chicken and cat met for the first time in battle. Okay, it wasn't a battle because they didn't touch each other, but it was something. This picture pretty much sums up the skirmish.

Out and About

Today was a great day for the chickens. They were out and about for an hour pecking, chewing and all the other strange things chickens do. We let 7 chickens out, so basically all the older chickens except Richie. If Richie got out side he would go nuts. He did once actually and Dad had to chase him around the yard a few times to catch him. Here are a few pictures of them enjoying the sunshine today.

Chickens in heaven

Yesterday we did a lot of yard work. We threw about 3 wheel barrow fulls of weeds, ferns, and leaves into the chicken coop. The chickens love to eat anything green so they were busy kicking, eating, and pecking the new greens. The plants in there now will probably last them for a few weeks. Here are a few pictures of them: Charles is the white and Doc is the beige.
Lemony poses with the fern pile.

New Chicken Practices

This weekend we tried a new activity with the chickens. We put leashes on them. Each chicken responded differently. Julia (Meez) ran around the yard trailing the leash. Lemony and Jasper just behaved as normal. I was able to take Jasper on a walk up our street!

I wish I had a picture of the chickens on leashes, but I have this one of the chickens we put leashes on.
