More Mixing Pics

As you know from the last post, we mixed our younger chickens with our older ones. I was very surprised at whow smoothly the whole thing went. Usually, when you mix chickens there is a huge battle to establish the pecking order. In our case, there were only a few curious pecks and glances.
Here is Hillary checking if the coast is clear.Aretha was the first chicken to venture out into the aviary.
Aretha with big, bad Richie. He looks pretty small in this picture which would not make him happy, I am sure.
Uh oh, big, bad Richie gets into the coop and inspects the younger chickens.
Aretha standing proudly because she figured out the roosting system.

Proud (and grumpy) Richie

Today was such a beautiful day, I couldn't resist dropping by the chicken coop. And dear Richie, who was patrolling the outer edges of the aviary, came to greet me. He almost got a chunk out of the camera when I came a bit too close.
Richie is two feet tall(it doesn't sound tall, but it really is for a chicken), and comes up to just above my knee.
Here is where he nearly ate the camera...
Though a handsome chicken, Richie is not the nicest chicken in the flock, and it is always wise to give him a wide berth.

Scrap Time!

Today we had a nice Sunday dinner, so naturally we had a lot of scraps to give out the chickens. They love scraps and were running all around trying to get the best ones.

Header Pics

Many people who have seen my new header don' t like it that they can not see the pictures very clearly. I meant it to be black and white because it matches my header. These are the pictures that are currently on my header. Jed

An Altered Richie~

Here is some randomly edited versions of Richie. Sorry, hopefully I will write more tomorrow. Meanwhile, enjoy the photos! He looks good in purple, don't you agree? I bet he doesn't, you can't find a prouder rooster anywhere!
Neon Richie
Hmm, I don't think I should have added the outline of Richie.... Oh well.

Short and Sweet

This is a short video, but it portrays what chickens do. I think at this stage in your education of chickens, you should be able to recognize what state of molting they are at in this clip. Your essay is due next Thursday..... Sorry, but guess what week it is; Semester final week.

I sure chose a convenient time to be sick!

Good Night! Or Bonne huit! (French Final was today too!)

And He Sticks the Landing!

Here is a photoshop I did of Richie doing Gymnastics. I admit, it definetly isn't my best, but is funny all the same! You can see the original photo in the previous post! Richie has always been weird!

Mr. High and Mighty

That's right. You guessed it. Who else would be "Mr. High and Mighty", but our own coop celebrity, Richard Peck! Here is another couple pictures of Richie ruling the roost, as we know it!

Richie thinking deep thoughts...

Hope you enjoyed those Richie photos! As Richie will tell you, "They're one of a kind!"

Wake up call

You might have already known that Richie is head in charge of waking up all humans on our little farm. Here is a video behind the scenes of how he does the difficult call. He is hoping to put a tutorial on his own blog, for those who are interested in learning how to crow.

Oh, if you noticed the sound at the end of the move, I had the hiccups!

The Early days

It was requested that I put some photo's of the chickens when they were younger on this blog. I have looked back in the archives of history and found several that fit the need. Here are a few of the young pullets and cockerel.
That is Pearl as a chick. They used to practice flying up to the cage door, and then jump on your lap. In this picture you can see a heat lamp. Chicks always need one in the vicinity so they can keep warm, until they grow their big feathers. this is when they were little more than fluff.
The good ole days!

Jasper is the white,Doc is the light brown next to her.
Lemony growing some feathers.
Julia on the feed, and Charles, the white, behind her. This is the stage where they resemble young turkeys(half feathers, half fluff)

Young Richard Peck. Back in the days he was nice, and very cute too!

We are going away camping for a few days, but the chickens are in good hands. Meanwhile, here is a picture of our camping spot:
Here is a picture of Richie and Jed, the two roosters. At least this isn't a totally random post!
