Signs of Spring

Today was a beautiful, there were many hopeful signs that spring is on its way! Here are three of the thirteen eggs laid today, its the most we've gotten in awhile. I also took some pictures of some of our trees that started blooming this week.
Our cat, Shadow. She always likes to be wherever I'm taking pictures.
Not a cloud in the sky...
The full collection of eggs-

I almost forgot, my sister and I got interviewed last week for the radio on the ins and outs of raising chickens. It was a very interesting experience, and I think she is going to give out this blog address so we will have a lot more readers! I will have to update more...

Enjoy this beautiful day!

Yay! Eggs!

Today we got ten eggs! I didn't collect the last two from yesterday, so we really only got eight. It is a sign that Spring is on its way, or perhaps already here!

Guardian of the eggs

The chickens sleep well at night because they know their eggs are in good hands.....er, paws. Shadow takes her job very seriously... As you can see.... Actually that is a myth, Shadow is not in charge of the eggs. She doesn't even like eggs! We tried to feed her one that broke, but she didn't eat it. I liked taking these pictures with the cat suspiciously in the background!

Survivor steps up

I don't get many pictures of Survivor, but today she just felt like posing, apparently. Today one of the Auracaunas(I don't know if it was Survivor) laid such a large egg it didn't fit in the egg carton. We knew the egg was from an Auracauna because it was blue. Auracaunas are the only breed of chicken that lays blue eggs. Just a little background chicken info for you.
Another classic picture of Doc.

Eggs galore!

We seem to be in the middle of an egg comeback. Today there were three eggs and yesterday there were two. Here is this weeks egg carton: Some of the eggs can hardly fit in the carton while others look like they were layed by chicks. Oh well, at least they are laying again!

Eggciting news!

We got two eggs today! The flock have been very lax on laying recently, but today we got two eggs!!! This is very amazing news, since it was Summer last time they layed more than one. I hope you are all having a good time doing whatever you are doing!

Chickens on holiday

Lately the chickens have been a little lax on laying. So far this month they have laid half a dozen eggs. We are hoping this is due to molting season, but can not be sure. In the meantime, our stomachs are growling with egg lust!
Something is missing!

Don't bug us! We're laying eggs!

I walked into the coop to collect eggs yesterday and found a surprise; 3 chickens in the nesting boxes laying their eggs! We have been getting an average of 6 eggs per day, which is really good, as we can fill up a carton in two days! The nice weather is really making a difference in the chickens laying habits. Here are some pictures of the chickens laying eggs.J.K. Rowling and Charles Dickens laying eggs. Well, actually J.K. is inspecting the camera.
Charles Dickens in the nesting box. Notice all of her feathers grew back!
