Gotta Love 'em, but they'll ruin your Jeans

In my years of keeping chickens, I have noticed this saying applies to most every day in the chicken business. I was taking food out to them, and I noticed they were in prime picture mode. So I went in, oblivious to the fact that I had my best jeans on. As you may guess when I came out, my jeans were in a worse state than when I entered. Doc was very nice and consented to not jump on me as five other chickens did.
Pearl thought about it for awhile and then jumped.:(
J.K. again A word to the wise: Chickens and Jeans should not mix!

Chicken close ups; The truth you never knew

Here is a collection of pictures of the chickens' face region. They are all incredibly handsome birds, and I think you can tell on these pics. Jed, a great asset to the coop, his good eye staring you down.
J.K., one of the original flock. She is always there for a photo opportunity.
She recently got stuck on the roof of the coop. Details on that later...
Jasper, not often posted on this blog, I think she sometimes feels jealous sometimes for all the attention I give her sister Charles.
And of course, the brave and noble, Charles Dickens! Oh, yes, I love this little guy!

Flight of Meez

This is a movie I took a while ago. You might notice my voice sounds funny, but that is because I had a cold. It gets pretty cute toward the end. You will understand why it is called "Flight of Meez"

By the way, Meez is a nickname for Julia. It is rather complicated how she got it!

Best Christmas Present Ever!

My sister and I received the best present ever on Christmas, a trip to Washington DC! Our parents surprised us at the end of the gift opening and we were so excited! We will be going in the Spring and through the airport in New Jersey. Meanwhile, Emma and I have been doing lots of research on DC, and want to make sure we don't miss any places. We are so excited!

Paper Chickens

I got an oragami calendar for Christmas, and I really like it! I have never done oragami before, but I realized it is pretty fun, with proper instruction. Here is all the animals I made:
All in all, it was a great Christmas!

True Christmas Spirit!

My sister and I were helping the chickens in to the coop, because for some reson they fell asleep outside. So we go tall of them into the coop and took a picture. Here is the Christmas version:
And the Original:

Merry Christmas everyone! (And by the way, this was a scheduled post, so I am not actually doing it on Christmas! More important things to do!:)

More Cookies!

Alright, yes I have discovered that I have a certain obsession with taking pictures of cookies. I don't know what it is about them, but they are just so photogenic. These ones are ginger snaps. You will have to judge whether the spritz or ginger snaps looked better in the pictures.

Happy Christmas Eve, and please comment!

Track this!

Some of you might be wondering what a chicken foot print looks like. You will be surprised to note that it actally looks like a chicken's foot. Pretty weird, right? Others of you might be interested to know which chicken's foot the picture depicts. It is Pearl's foot.

And He Sticks the Landing!

Here is a photoshop I did of Richie doing Gymnastics. I admit, it definetly isn't my best, but is funny all the same! You can see the original photo in the previous post! Richie has always been weird!

Chicken Smarts

I know everyone thinks chickens are dumb and all of that, but I have some proof that they aren't as dumb as you might think. Since there was so much wind, tons of snow got blown into the aviary and they could not access the coop. The chickens were all huddled in the corner. I put this long stick in there and look at what they did:

This is after most of the chickens got in the coop, but you can see the little path I made for them. Richie lending a helping wing to Charles.

Richie gets in, Yay!

Gathering of Bloggers!

Today I met with three fellow bloggers, and we discussed possible ways of promoting blogging (ok, fine, we actually had a sleepover and had a great time and didn't discuss blogging as much as it suggests in the previous sentence.). I met with Nadine from Candy Cane Llama, Agent Pizza from Blogs of Pizzas, AG from The Most Awesomest Blog Ever, and Emma from her new blog Emmas Dilemmas. Also, present were Agent Catnip is not a bloggers, but is helpful in her own way. We had a great time, and enjoyed the first official day of Winter Break.

Yay! 100 Posts!

Yay! We have reached the hundred posts mark! This is a big step for this blog, and I could not have done it, without so much feedback and comments from all of you! We started this blog back in May and I don't think any of us expected it to be this awesome(as you can see, I left the humility at home:)(but who needs it anyway?)

We shall start out Winter Break with one hundred posts. Doesn't that just feel good? Plus, we beat "More Yarn Please" to one hundred! Ha Ha He He! Wow, we only beat it by five minutes!

Survivor; a chicken of Great Deeds

Alright, I don't know if Survivor has done any great deeds, but I couldn't think of another title! Here is another picture of Survivor posing very majestically and photogenically.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...

Based on the precipititation today I think there is a pretty good chance we will get a white Christmas! Yes! We have not had a white Christmas for quite a few years. I do not remember the last time. Chistmas is always that much more fun with snow! We spent the whole day today sledding with friends. I just checked the school website and there is not school tomorrow either! We are going to have lots of make-up days in the Summer, but for now it doesn't matter!

In my opinion, there is nothing as great as snowcovered evergreens!

Newest focus!

I just made an amazing discovery! Cookies are photogenic! Yes, its true. My mom, sister and me were making spritz cookies last night and I figured out that they do not only have high taste quality, but also picture quality! We ended up making five batches! I took quite a few pictures too! This is my best picture of them. I would say it is pretty good!
My sister took this one.

The last batch!
(Oh whoops, this post has nothing to do with chickens!)

Rockin' Feed!

Here is a rather hilarious video of the chickens trying to eat with the feeder rocking back and forth. Yes, it was a bit mean on my part, but I don't think the chickens minded. Don't let me tell you! Judge for yourself:

Fun with Jed!

Jed is quite a fun little chicken, and is liked best by 14% of my blog readers. That is, assuming all the readers of my blog vote on polls. Anyway, Here are quite a few pictures of Jed. They were taken yesterday before I cleaned the coop. Jed pulling his "deep in thought" pose. I wonder if he thought of anything.

Here he is again, in black and white.

Here is a bit too close, but you get a good picture of his eyes.

I think some of that feed went down the wrong pipe, or else he is sick of being photographed.

Bon Appetite!

The chickens were very hungry when we went in to clean the coop. At least nine chickens jumped in and started eating! Here is a few pictures of them eating thier various pellets of food.

A Special Thank You...

I would like to thank this unnamed noble bird for being a motto for Chicken news for so long. She served us wisely and will never be forgotten. I am pretty sure it is a hen, so special thanks to her!

I hope you all like the new background!

New, New, and New!

As you have probably noticed, Chicken News has undergone a major makeover. Whether you like or dislike it, just comment and suggest sonething. I am still in the process of making changes.

Fruity Randomness

This post is very random. Here is a picture of the grapefruit I just ate. It was the first one of the season (to come our house, that is). Also, go to http://freerice.com/. It is the coolest website because everytime you get a question right it donates 20 grains of rice to hungry people in Africa. The point of this post was: Feed hungry people and feed yourself! If that isn't random, what is???

Think outside the box...Unless you are a cat!

Today I encountered something I had never thought of before. You know how dogs are man's best friend? Apparently cats have a best friend too. Boxes. Ever since dad put the box in the garage, Shadow has never been seen out of it except when she's eating.Oh, and I learned another thing too; Don't try and take away the box.

I hope you are all having a nice December and are ready for the holidays! Boxes will begin to arrive for everyone...even cats!

Really cool movie!!!

Sorry to trick you, but I haven't been out in the chicken coop recently to take pictures! Sorry!

Doc!

Doc is very strange. Yes, I say it about every chicken, but it is true! Here is a short clip that I find rather funny!

And as a sidenote: a special Happy Birthday to my Grandpa!

Struting with Purpose!

One thing rewarding about having chickens is they are exciting to watch. That may sound boring, but it is actually quite an enjoyable pass time. You see, when they walk it looks like they have gum stuck to there feet, which is very amusing to observe! When the chickens are outside they move very quick and sharp movements, because they don't always get to be outside their coop. All right, I think I have given you enough description, now you can see the pictures!
Julia just looks like a little blur!

Charles is giving you the eye!

Eggs galore!

We seem to be in the middle of an egg comeback. Today there were three eggs and yesterday there were two. Here is this weeks egg carton: Some of the eggs can hardly fit in the carton while others look like they were layed by chicks. Oh well, at least they are laying again!

Jed: Crower extrordinaire

This video is kind of long and it takes a while to get to the crowing part. However, you can skip to 16 seconds and see the crowing part. It is very interesting.

Jed actually learned to crow from Richie. His previous owners said that Jed never crowed, and now he does it all the time. Apparently, Richie is a skilled teacher!

Lemony: Up close and personal

Here are a few cute photos of Lem, who has recently earned the nicname of Lemberton. I am not sure why, nor is anyone else. Lemony has grown a lot of white feathers on her face, which is a little odd, but it is not a sign of old age. At least I don't think it is. The chickens are almost"Over the hill" because chickens are supposed to live till five, and ours are turning three in April. That is the news, now enjoy the pictures!
