Mark your calendars....

If any of you are considering getting chicks, now is the time! The next three months are chick season! If you are contemplating getting chickens, first thing to do is check your city or town ordinance, to see if your city or town allows raising chickens. They aren't as hard to manage as you would think. Quite as easy, but different, as keeping a cat or dog. I hope some of you will take part in this eggciting time! Pardon the pun!

New chickens on the block

Chickens may not be as popular as cats or dogs, but they are gaining prominence! I know this because one of our neighbors is getting chickens this Spring. Tif and her family came over on Sunday and asked Em and I all about our experiences with raising chickens. Not that they needed much help, Tif was well versed in chicken terminology and knew quite as much as I did. I think they just needed a real-life example to make sure all the books were up to scratch. We really enjoyed our time with them, and the chickens are excited to have some feathered friends on the block!

I have this picture of Lemony here because Speckled Sussex is one of the breeds Tif and her family hopes to get. Lemony is a bit of an oddball in her breed because none of the Sussex characteristics describe her very well. I am interested to see how Tif's Sussex's compare with Lemony
