Our friend Shadow

You may have thought that the chickens were our only pets. We actually have another pet that is a friend of the chickens (or else she wouldn't be on this blog), a cat named Shadow. Here is a few pictures of her with the chickens.

This is when the coop was under construction. Shadow was with us from the beginning!

When they were chicks Shadow showed particular interest in the chickens.
Here she poses with Charles the fluffball!

The full size chickens and Shadow. They are getting a little big for her taste!

Hats for everyone

Mom asked me to take some pictures of her most recent masterpieces: her berry hats. The chickens got involved with the photography. You might wonder how.
This is how:

Unfinished photoshop

This is a picture of Pearl in outer space (hence the spacemask). I was going to put the planets in the background, but it didn't work out right. I have to work on my photoshopping skills.

Squeaky clean...for a chicken coop, anyway!

Today I cleaned the chicken coop from top to bottom. I scrubbed and washed for a whole hour! I even used Windex on the window! Now I don't have to clean it for another two weeks. Here are some pictures of the chickens enjoying their tidy environment!

Don't bug us! We're laying eggs!

I walked into the coop to collect eggs yesterday and found a surprise; 3 chickens in the nesting boxes laying their eggs! We have been getting an average of 6 eggs per day, which is really good, as we can fill up a carton in two days! The nice weather is really making a difference in the chickens laying habits. Here are some pictures of the chickens laying eggs.J.K. Rowling and Charles Dickens laying eggs. Well, actually J.K. is inspecting the camera.

Chickens in heaven

Yesterday we did a lot of yard work. We threw about 3 wheel barrow fulls of weeds, ferns, and leaves into the chicken coop. The chickens love to eat anything green so they were busy kicking, eating, and pecking the new greens. The plants in there now will probably last them for a few weeks. Here are a few pictures of them: Charles is the white and Doc is the beige.

Coming back

We came back yesterday and all the chickens were doing well. Charles, who had lost all of her feathers before, grew them all back when I was away. It was great to see her with feathers again! Also, the hens are laying more eggs from the sunny weather which is very good. We got 6 eggs today! Way to go chickens!!!
