Inspiration comes from anywhere(even chicken feet!)

J.K. got hold of my jeans again. Thank goodness her feet were clean. You know there are chickens that have feathers on their feet? Yes, and they are very hard to take care of because dirt and mud get stuck in the mass of feathers. Click here to see one. Yes, I take such random pictures, but for real inspiration, go to the bottom of this post.
I looked up "foot" just for fun on the quotations page and found a few thought provoking quotes. Here are a few:
"One who walks in anothers tracks leaves no fooprints"-Proverb
"A slip of the foot and you may soon recover, a slip of the tongue you may never get over"-Benjamin Franklin
"I don't look around 7-foot bars to jump over, I look around for 1-foot bars that I can step over"-Warren Buffet
Just a bit of foot inspiration for you!

Auracauna Awesomeness

Here is a few pictures of our Auracaunas-J.K. and Pearl. They are forty percent of the Auracauna population we have on this farm(5). J.K. layed an egg with just the membrane in it. Someones not getting enough protein. tut tut. J.K. was feeling quite social today and was jumping and flapping all over me, so it was no problem to take this shot.
Pearl is laying an egg in this photo, and she isn't too pleased I came in to interrupt. She doesn't look too angry though. Thanks for reading!

Getting Advanced~

You may have noticed that this week I haven't been posting too much(except today where I posted a lot for last week:). It has been a busy week, and when I have been able to get on the computer I tryed out some new stuff with my template. I successfully made a three-column template and made a signature for my posts. Both of which, took me quite awhile. Now I feel quite smart! I really shouldn't since I have seen quite a few blogs with three columns, but oh well! Now I will get back to posting daily. Thank you for reading my blog!

Preening 101

You may wonder how chickens keep their feathers so clean. There is actually a lot of work involved. In their free time(they have a lot!) most of the time chickens preen. All birds do it to keep bugs out of their feathers, and keeping them smooth and soft.

They just run their beaks over each feather, therefore cleaning it.

Here is Doc modeling his finished product.

Silkie chickens

This type of chicken is called a Silkie. That is the actual breed name. This picture is taken at the state fair last Summer. They have so many breeds there, it is really neat.

Charles doing what she does best....

This isn't a great picture, but as I haven't taken too many pictures this weekend it is the best I've got. Emma and I were outside and we let a bunch of chickens out to enjoy the good weather. This is Charles taking advantage of the freedom and doing his favorite passtime; kicking leaves.

Bye for now, and do you like the new three-column template? It took long enough to figure out!

An Altered Richie~

Here is some randomly edited versions of Richie. Sorry, hopefully I will write more tomorrow. Meanwhile, enjoy the photos! He looks good in purple, don't you agree? I bet he doesn't, you can't find a prouder rooster anywhere!
Neon Richie
Hmm, I don't think I should have added the outline of Richie.... Oh well.

Survivor steps up

I don't get many pictures of Survivor, but today she just felt like posing, apparently. Today one of the Auracaunas(I don't know if it was Survivor) laid such a large egg it didn't fit in the egg carton. We knew the egg was from an Auracauna because it was blue. Auracaunas are the only breed of chicken that lays blue eggs. Just a little background chicken info for you.
Another classic picture of Doc.

J.K.'s new look

Wow, as I typed the title I realized how much it sounded like a caption in some celebrity magazine-weird. Anyway, J.K. has a strange problem with her beak. It grows in a fang-like protuberance which is quite odd.

You may have noticed this before in some other pictures. She has had it for quite awhile, but I guess we thought she would just grow out of it. I shall keep you posted on this latest occurence.

Spotlight on Charles!

I spent some time with Charles today. The other chickens were picking on her, so I got her out of the coop for a while. I think she enjoyed it. Here are some pictures from today.

The Neon Look

Here is a picture of Charles I took today and another neon version. I think I could have done a better job editing it though! The neon didn't come out as well as I thought.

Technology~isn't it great?

My dad just got a blackberry phone after having his other one for around five years. I am helping him with the music and texting, and I went to my blog from it too. It is really neat, and I commented to my friend's blog with it as well(it sure took awhile). He was able to take pictures with it at my Volleyball game, which was cool because he doesn't have an ipod, or camera, and now he has them all in one.

Only the Shadow knows...

On Sunday I was mostly focusing on Julia, but I did get a few random shots of Shadow. She follows us everywhere, but is usually too close to get a good picture. Seriously, she is like your own personal shadow, hence her name. Here are the pictures:

Yay the snow has returned! And in February too! I don't think we have had snow in February before in a long time. Two hour late start, hurray!

Rock a bye Chicken....

Someones' eyelids were getting heavy! Meez was just relaxing after a hard day in the coop. Chickens, like hawks, close their eyes up, as you can see in the picture.

By the way, if you didn't already know, Meez is short for Julia Child.

Saturday Morning Excitment

This morning we had a chimney fire. It was 7:30 and we all got out of the house and Mom moved her car out of the way. Firetrucks from two of the local stations came, and one of the guys asked me some questions about the fire. He asked if there was smoke in the house and if you could see the flames. The fire people and Dad did their thing, and Mom, Emma and I hung out outside. I really wish Emma's camera worked on this computer, because we got some good pictures. An hour and a half later they had the fire out, and one of the Fire ladies came out and looked at the chickens. I took a picture of her and Charles, but like I said, for some reason the pictures didn't show up. The neighbors came over and made mom some coffee. Grown ups are so weird about coffee. They always need it. Anyway, the fire people said that Dad had been doing a good job cleaning out the chimney every month, and the fire would have spread to the house if he hadn't been doing such a good job cleaning it out. I really wish I could show you some pictures, but maybe during the week I will.

Other Chickens

Here are some chickens from around the world. I met them through google. However, I do recognize a few breeds. The striped ones are Barred Plymouth Rocks, and the black are Jersey Giants.
Here are some Leghorns. They are the chickens you get your store-bought eggs from.

Here is what Charles looked like as a chick! It isn't her of course, but it looks exactly the same!

I am not sure about these two, but I think the white one is a Sebright.

In Theaters......

Last night, I went to the theater with some friends and saw Inkheart! It is really well done, and follows the book. I read it in fourth grade, so I had to explain certain parts to my companions. It would probably be confusing if you haven't read the book, but most things are explained in the movie. I recommend it! This is Meggie, the main character.
This is Inkheart the book.
